Peaceful opposition
Maximilian Kolbe was an outspoken activist against leftist agendas, more particularly Communism. In January of 1922, he founded "Knight of the Immaculate," a devotional publication that became popular because of its close resemblence to "Messenger of the Heart of Jesus." Issues highlighted moral dilemas of the time, such as Nazism, and gave church teaching on such pressing issues. By 1938, the magazine had reached its peak of eight hundred thousand copies per month, a number impressive by even today's standards. In 1927, he founded a new Covential Franciscian monastery near Warsaw, Poland. The location quickly became a hub for the publication of Catholic literature and ressurected an almost dead order. Because of Father Kolbe, the Covential Franciscians dwindling numbers of approximatelty one hundred, expanded to well over one thousand strong.
